The importance of diet
My career as a boxer requires me to live by strict rules when it comes to dieting and health. They include eating the standard three meals a day – breakfast (the most important meal of the day), lunch and dinner as well as eating the right amount of food for each meal and not ‘stuffing’ yourself. Eating slowly and what you actually eat is equally important.
My breakfast routine is to have a serving of fruit (every fruit has loads of nutritional value) between 8-11am each morning. Usually I’ll have some apple, orange, kiwi fruit, pear, and banana. This gives me a lot of energy early in the day and is good for maintaining a healthy and fit body in the long run.
For lunch, I usually have small portions of organic, gluten and wheat free rice or pasta with a garlic and tomato-based sauce. Having this for lunch between 12pm-2pm means you have the rest of the day to work your carbs off and sustains your energy for the rest of the day. Try and eat organic, gluten and wheat free when you can as they are much healthier options that help digestion too.
A favourite and healthy dinner for me includes steamed, skinless and organic chicken with a spread of crushed garlic and avocado. I also make sure I have enough vegies on my plate such as broccoli, tomato, onion, ¼ sweet potato, mushrooms and a handful of spinach and peas as well as some low fat cheese.
Always make sure to have dinner by 7pm so that you have gone to bed almost fully digested and drink plenty of water during the day to stay hydrated. Remember to combine enough fruit and vegetables in your diet and limit the amount of fat content in your food.
Following these simple steps and combining a consistent exercise routine will keep you fit and healthy.
