Shout out from Weez
Hi Guys
My name is Weez, and I am a music dude. Not the interesting type of music dude that actually makes music (that’s for my business partner Styalz and the amazing artists I work with). I am the less interesting music dude who works with artists, producers, bands and other talented folks to help them get their music out to people to hear, and hopefully feel and love and want to listen to over and over again. I am also a lifelong music fan, who feels very lucky to be in a position where I can live and work with music everyday as my job, and I try to never forget that.
Styalz (who is a professional songwriter and music producer) and I run a company called Affinity Music, which is a production/management company and recording studio, that we started about 6 years ago. My basic role there is to manage Styalz’s career and the general running of the studio.
I basically co-ordinate all of the projects he works on at any given time and assist him in his journey through the music industry, which has been amazing so far. Just to give you an idea of what he has worked on, here are some tracks he has produced and helped co-write.
Diafrix – Simple Man – http://www.youtube.com/embed/ATSNwF32Hf4
360 & Pez – Just Got Started – http://www.youtube.com/embed/2PqfnN8d8rU
Chamillionaire feat Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg & Kelis – Not A Criminal <http://www.youtube.com/embed/FUYYYZ_PNyI
The Wombats – Tokyo (’96 Bulls Remix) http://www.youtube.com/embed/_NmEjUCLX-Y
Another part of my life is working in the A&R (Artist & Repertoire) department at Illusive Sounds, which is a record label that looks after acts like Bliss N Eso, Paris Wells, Diafrix, Lowrider, True Live and more.
I basically work with all the acts there to develop their albums and singles to a point where the label is ready to release them out. That could include working directly with them on their music or helping with video clip ideas and photoshoots, or co-ordinating overseas trips for them. Again, I feel very lucky to be in the position there and love my job!
Styalz and I are both very excited to be involved in the Words With Weapons project, and look forward to helping bring some of your songs to life in the studio with some fantastic vocalists. I have been a big supporter of Live No Fear since it was started up last year and think it’s the type of initiative that we should see more of, allowing young people to explore the arts, especially music, with people directly involved in the industry. It’s an amazing thing and I thank Mushroom Marketing and the Victorian Government for having us involved and getting you all you guys on board too!!
Will blog again soon with some updates on the studio sessions and how it’s all going!
Cheers
Weez
