Self control

As a middleweight boxing champion, it is important to have self-control in the ring and keep composed during a fight. This will give you leverage over your opponent by showing that their taunts haven’t gotten to you. Often in boxing or any sport showing your opponent that you’re frustrated or that they’ve gotten to you gives them the upper hand and they’ll use this to get you out of your comfort zone and stop you from winning.

In everyday life, you may come across situations where you’re confronted with threats or violence that could put you in danger. It is important to remember, that keeping your composure is equally important in these situations as it is in boxing. It will enable you to make the right decision when faced with confrontation. My advice is to walk away from confrontation which is an easy choice to make when you’re cool, calm and collected. It will always make you the winner in any fight.

Boxing requires a lot of discipline. I’ve been boxing for 17 years, 11 years as a professional.Eating healthily and being fit is the best high you can get. To be in the best mental and physical shape for the sport I recommend the following four diet rules that I live by:

  • Eat small portions throughout the day
  • Eat foods in high nutritional value
  • Eat at appropriate times during the day
  • Drink lots of water throughout the day to stay hydrated
